On behalf of partner Schouten Techniek, Ursem Modulaire Bouwsystemen has produced 270 prefabricated bathrooms in the Wognum factory, for a large transformation project in Amsterdam. The application of Ursem3D Bathrooms results in a significant time saving and considerable risk reduction. Snoeren bouwmanagement is managing the project.
The former office of DAS Rechtsbijstand, situated at the Karspeldreef and built in 1993, will be completely transformed from office building into student housing. The 14.153 m² building was stripped down to its structure.
Mid April 2018 the production of the fully prefabricated bathrooms was started, and only a few months later, on 20th Juli 2018 the last module left the factory. End of July the last transportation took place, followed by a period of finishing and further construction of the floors.

Serial production
and just-in-time delivery
The prefabricated bathrooms are produced in series at the Ursem plant and meet all Building Code fire and noise requirements. On the outside of the bathrooms, installation company Schouten Techniek places a technical compartment with all necessary installations for central heating, ventilation, water and electricity. After testing and approval of the bathrooms they are wrapped in waterproof packaging material and prepared for transport to the building site.
The bathrooms will be delivered on the building site just-in-time, and hauled to the proper floor. To guarantee a massive floor quality, after the bathrooms are fitted on location, a sand-cement screed is applied, to be finished with floor tile.
TRANSFORMATION POSSIBILITIES
Office transformation gives a new function to empty office buildings, and offers many advantages. Transformation helps in solving both the shortage of housing and the office space surplus. Furthermore, less building materials are needed because less buildings are being demolished.
The municipality of Amsterdam welcomed the developer’s plans to for a change of use from office building to housing space, especially in view of the office space surplus and shortage of student housing.
